Hi! I’m Sophie, and I love penguins.

My fondness for penguins happened gradually. I was in college at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, far away from my hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio. Sometimes in my free time I’d walk down to the Hilton Hawaiian Resort village, where they kept, amongst the shops and tiki torches, a small flock (or waddle) of penguins. I’d sit on the edge of the pool and sketch in my sketchbook, watching them swim and preen.

Penguins are cute, there’s no doubt about it, but they’re also curious, resourceful and persistent. The more I got to know about them, the more I was filled with a desire to share that knowledge with others. Look at how great penguins are! Isn’t this a cool fact? I began writing articles about the fun facts I’d found about penguins. Soon I found myself writing and illustrating books. Curious. Resourceful. Persistent. Every day I aspire to be like a penguin.
